Why We Switched Teams

We know how the tax system works from the inside out, and we know exactly how frustrating it is from the outside looking in.

Our firm was built out of a shared frustration with the status quo of the tax and accounting industry. For years, we sat on opposite sides of the desk, dealing with a system that simply wasn't built to help everyday business owners succeed.

The View from the Inside

For a decade, our founding partners worked on the inside as government tax auditors, handling special tax cases and seeing firsthand how the bureaucracy operates. Sometimes, that meant protecting the government from fraud. But all too often, it meant watching poor tax policy financially drain people and ruin livelihoods.

As auditors, our job was to uphold those policies, as broken as they were.

Our hands were completely tied.

We weren't allowed to advise taxpayers or help them resolve issues that were clearly caused by a broken system. We watched people spend tens—sometimes hundreds—of thousands of dollars trying to navigate a maze they didn't understand. It was draining to see people struggling when we knew exactly how to help, but weren't allowed to.

We realized we needed to switch teams.

The View from the Trenches

At the same time, we also know exactly what it’s like to be the one writing the checks.

One of our founding partners, Anton Kioroglo, spent 15 years in the trenches starting and running a small business. facing real payroll needs and having to make tough expense decisions day in and day out.

Like most business owners, Anton had a lot of tax questions, but proactive advisory help was nowhere to be found. When tax season rolled around, trying to reach an accountant was like talking to a brick wall. Nobody would answer the phone, and emails went ignored for weeks at a time. It became painfully clear that the accountants we were dealing with had no clue what it actually felt like to run a small business. And, frankly, how draining it is to call or email your accountant with the same questions because he hasn’t responded to your last email from last week.

One year, Anton decided to find a better accountant, but after interviewing 12, yes 12 accounting firms, he went back to the original. Because not only were they not any better, but many of them, honestly didn’t seem to even understand what problems the business owners were trying to solve.

Why We Built This Firm

That’s when Anton decided to bring these two experiences together to create the accounting firm we all wished existed. Anton and the rest of the founding partners combined decades of insider government tax knowledge with real-world, small-business grit.

Today, we work with everyday business owners who don’t want to be bogged down by bureaucracy.
